Hometown
WORKSHOP

Brookings, Oregon • July 21-24, 2021

There’s truly no place like the Southern Oregon Coast. It’s hard to get to, which is why it’s still pristine and wild in it’s rugged beauty. An untapped secret photographers haven’t flocked to (yet). We all head to places like Iceland and Hawaii for the epic backdrops. But here’s the place I grew up in – that marvels with the world’s best. I’m beyond excited to share it with you. From the redwood forests, to the wildflower laded hillsides that slope into the tumultuous sea, scattered with rock formations below. And the crystal clear emerald rivers. There’s an abundance of beauty to behold, adventure and shoot in. And that’s exactly what I want to do.  Take you on an adventure in my hometown, where we will hike and shoot and edit to our hearts content. Filling our little photographer cups with all the natural beauty this coastal landscape has to offer and our souls with the sisterhood that inevitably unfolds with time spent doing what we love.

WHEN & WHERE

July 21-24, 2021 – Brookings, Oregon (Workshop begins at 7 pm on July 21 and ends at 10 am on July 24). Medford (MFR) is the airport I’d recommend flying into (try and coordinate schedules & carpool with other attendees in the private attendee facebook group). It’s then a 2.5 hour drive to Brookings.

WORKSHOP
INCLUDES

  • Four photo sessions, where we will be shooting side by side: my thought process, styling, location selection, settings, gear, everything.
  • Hikes and adventure on the coast I grew up on, with all the beautiful gems I can’t wait to share with you.
  • Open dialogue the entire time with all questions answered. This one isn’t geared toward sit-down instruction. Let’s go see and experience this amazing place together with lots of shoots and editing between.
  • Instruction on utilizing light in dramatic or emotional ways
  • Finding and embracing authentic moments in the stories our families bring
  • Creating emotive imagery and the art of the unposed
  • Full editing workflow demonstration from RAW to finished. I encourage you to bring your laptop for this, for when we’re all editing together between sessions. Presets & actions aren’t included.
  • Lodging in this gorgeous oceanfront home, with shared beds
  • Welcome dinner & drinks on July 21 at 7 pm.
  • Breakfasts that we’ll prepare and share communally. Plus coffee and wine, because who can survive without those. Otherwise, I want us to eat out for lunch and dinner, so you can experience more of the local culture & cuisine and not be stuck in the house the whole time (meals out will be at your own expense though).
  • Private attendee facebook group.

WHAT’S NOT
INCLUDED

Airfare, transportation to and during the workshop (I will have my car to shuttle some of the attendees, but the rest I recommend car pooling). Other than the welcome dinner, breakfasts, coffee and red wine at the house – dining out for lunch & dinner, plus any personal snacks will be up to you to purchase.

KIND WORDS FROM
A PAST ATTENDEE

“In the busy pace of life, so many moments and opportunities are lost or allowed to pass us by. Despite my current jet-lagged state, I did not want this moment to be one of them. I could not let the days melt into weeks without sending you a note.

The last few days were deeply meaningful to me and I truly have you to thank. I found a fellowship that has long been absent and a sense of belonging that completely took me by sweet surprise. But, more than that, I finally feel my creative voice beginning to take shape and, more importantly, I have the courage to pursue it. You lead by gentle, brave example and, by exposing your vulnerability, allowed us to do the same.

As creatives, we often spend a great deal of time mired in self-doubt, fear or indecision. I would be remiss if I failed to banish even the merest shadow of these from your mind regarding the restorative last few days. You have a natural gift for guidance and a wholehearted approach that I feel is woefully lacking among many photographer-educators.

You probably already know how great you are and how revolutionary this workshop was for me but, I could not take the chance that you didn’t. You deserve every praise I can give.”
